The ninth edition of the Voix de Femmes Festival was held from 18 to 28 November 2009 in Liege (Caserne Fonck), Brussels (Flagey), Antwerp (Wcc Zuiderpershuis) and Utrecht (Rasa). The 2009 Voix de Femmes Festival was dedicated to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, a face of the Burmese resistance and a figure of the non-violent opposition to the military dictatorship of her country who, after over 14 years in custody, was once again convicted on arbitrary grounds. The festival is dedicated to all the women in resistance: the mothers, relatives and friends of the disappeared persons, the artists, but also women, to all the women, who have shown through their attitude and their daily actions across the world extraordinary resilience. This 9th Voix de Femmes Festival spoke of the role of women in the world. The concerts, creations, monologues, small-scale theatre and dance shows, visual art work, films, seminars, debates, workshops, laboratories, that the festival has presented shared the element of asking about existing links or links to create between art and politics, as defended by women from all cultures and origins, from Algeria, Argentina, Belgium, Benin, Brazil, Burundi, Chili, China, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Mexico, Palestine, DRCongo, Rwanda, Siberia, Syria, Zimbabwe, and more.
